Sustainability is an important aspect of Till Fishing, and we are always striving to improve and learn. The cottages are based at Tiptoe Farm which is LEAF marked (Linking Environment & Farming) which has sustainability at the heart. The River Till is a SSSI (Site of Special Scientific interest) and therefore needs to be managed effectively and appropriately to conserve the special features of the site. We continue to make improvements & progress on the products we buy, energy we use and the environment we live in.
There are 50kw of solar panels on the farm at Tiptoe, this energy powers the office where the Till Fishing team are based.
The Orchard cottage is fitted with an air source hear pump. Air source heat pumps are a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuel heating systems.
Border View cottage has an electric boiler which is A rated and 100% efficient. We are looking to add an additional solar array & battery storage next year (2023) so that the energy produced is more sustainable.
We love to support and promote local suppliers and producers whenever possible. Food products within breakfast hampers are all local within a radius of 20 miles. Soap products supplied are from Berwick botanicals who use biodegradable packaging and essential oils. Reed diffusers are sourced from Notes of Northumberland based locally in Alnwick.
All the water for the properties comes directly from the farm’s freshwater borehole. Using a borehole is a safe and sustainable natural water source. Around 60% of all mains water is recycled which requires a lot of energy to clean to achieve safe drinking water.
All our items for washing up are plastic free. Cellulose sponges and cloths that can be composted, bamboo washing up brush, this helps to reduce our plastic waste. We are in the process of changing all our cleaning products to eco-friendly, plant-based options. We are trialling different brands to understand which work best for our business.
Our washing machine uses intelligent dosing, this reduces waste and overuse. All our linen is air dried.
